T-34 Additional Armour

T-34s with additional armour were a common sight in early 1942. However, few know that this was the second attempt to improve the armour of the T-34. Another one was made right after the start of the war, in July of 1941.

The hull and turret were covered with 15 mm armoured plates. On newer T-34s, the cast connector between the UFP and LFP was not covered. On older tanks where the UFP and LFP were made from one bent armour plate, it was covered up with a separate 15 mm screen.

This extra armour proved too time consuming and was only ever installed on two tanks.
